If You Forget Me…

Thursday, November 23rd, 2006

This is the most beautiful poem that I received.

—————————————-

Came across this beautiful piece from the maestro himself moments ago that best describes what I’m going through… to all who have their heartstrings pulled before, this is for you… especially to the complicated girl with a complicated mind… thanks for the company for these last few weeks, it has been wonderful.

If You Forget Me

by Pablo Neruda

I want you to know
one thing.

You know how this is:
if I look
at the crystal moon, at the red branch
of the slow autumn at my window,
if I touch
near the fire
the impalpable ash
or the wrinkled body of the log,
everything carries me to you,
as if everything that exists,
aromas, light, metals,
were little boats
that sail
toward those isles of yours that wait for me.

Well, now,
if little by little you stop loving me
I shall stop loving you little by little.

If suddenly
you forget me
do not look for me,
for I shall already have forgotten you.

If you think it long and mad,
the wind of banners
that passes through my life,
and you decide
to leave me at the shore
of the heart where I have roots,
remember
that on that day,
at that hour,
I shall lift my arms
and my roots will set off
to seek another land.

But
if each day,
each hour,
you feel that you are destined for me
with implacable sweetness,
if each day a flower
climbs up to your lips to seek me,
ah my love, ah my own,
in me all that fire is repeated,
in me nothing is extinguished or forgotten,
my love feeds on your love, beloved,
and as long as you live it will be in your arms
without leaving mine.

Thank you, P.
Thank you for your love.
Thank you for your support.
Thank you for your friendship.
I will never forget you.

Click this –> Afghan Refugee Girl - Sharbat Gula
Recognize this photo?
It was the cover of National Geographic magazine many years back.
Taken by this welknown photographer - Steve McCurry

recognized universally as one of today’s finest image makers, has won many of photography’s top awards. Best known for his evocative color photography, McCurry, in the finest documentary tradition, captures the essence of human struggle and joy. Member of Magnum Photos since 1986, McCurry has searched and found the unforgettable; many of his images have become modern icons.

Steve McCurry has covered many areas of international and civil conflict, including the Iran-Iraq war, Beirut, Cambodia, the Philippines, the Gulf War, and continuing coverage of Afghanistan. McCurry’s work has been featured in every major magazine in the world and frequently appears in National Geographic magazine with recent articles on Tibet, Afghanistan, Iraq, Yemen, and the temples of Angkor Wat, Cambodia.
McCurry is driven by an innate curiosity and sense of wonder about the world and everyone in it. He has an uncanny ability to cross boundaries of language and culture to capture stories of human experience. “Most of my images are grounded in people, and I try to convey what it is like to be that person, a person caught in a broader landscape, that you could call the human condition.”

A high point of his career was the rediscovery of the previously unidentified Afghan refugee girl which many have described as the most recognizable photograph in the world today.
When he finally located Sharbat Gula after almost two decades, he said, “Her skin is weathered; there are wrinkles now, but she is as striking as she was all those years ago.”

Berry?

Monday, September 5th, 2005

This is a true story happened in previous semester Macroeconomic exam.

Question: Name 3 Trade Barriers

Guess what?

A student answered:

1) Strawberries
2) Blueberries
3) Raspberries

Do you get the joke?

Its Barriers vs Berries
The student probably mistaken trade barriers as trade berries…
Or, the student didn’t know the answer, so came up with some really creative ones. Students are getting smarter nowdays huh =p
